1 Million Coders Programme: Govt shifts training to final-year students to improve job readiness
The government is restructuring Ghana’s One Million Coders Programme to prioritise third-year and final-year university students, aiming to equip graduates with practical digital skills that match the demands of the job market. Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations Minister Sam Nartey George announced the change during a visit to the programme’s training centres at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He explained that training students closer to graduation would reduce the gap between acquiring digital skills and applying them in the workplace. The government has also announced plans to provide KNUST with an additional 2,000 laptops, bringing the university’s allocation to 2,500 and expanding access to training facilities across campus. The initiative forms part of a broader effort to connect digital skills training with employment opportunities. The government is also targeting 100,000 digitally enabled jobs over the next two years. #NewsDesk
