Korle Bu Emergency Unit: Hospital calls for new facility as accident victims overwhelm 64-bed unit
Korle Bu Teaching Hospital is facing mounting pressure on its Accident and Emergency Unit as rising patient numbers, including road accident victims, stretch the facility's capacity. Hospital authorities are calling for a new or expanded emergency facility to help address the growing demand for urgent medical care. The hospital's Head of Accident and Emergency, Dr Henry Bulley, has highlighted the need for additional infrastructure, more healthcare professionals and improved referral systems. The unit has been receiving around 100 patients daily, exceeding its original 50-bed capacity. The concerns come amid broader efforts by the government to expand emergency care at major hospitals, including Korle Bu, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital and the 37 Military Hospital. #NewsDesk
