Power Outage: GRIDCo works to restore power in parts of Accra

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) is working to restore electricity supply to parts of Accra following a fire outbreak at its Mallam Substation in the early hours of Wednesday, October 14, 2026. According to GRIDCo, the incident occurred at about 2:36 a.m. after a fault triggered a fire on one of the transformers, disrupting power supply to communities served by the substation. The Ghana National Fire Service responded and successfully extinguished the fire. Power has been restored to some affected areas, while engineers continue working to reconnect the remaining communities. Areas reported to be affected include Lapaz, Mallam, Anyaa and Awoshie. GRIDCo says investigations are underway to determine the cause of the incident, and steps have been initiated to replace the damaged transformer. The company has apologised to affected customers for the inconvenience. #NewsDesk
