Wontumi’s 20-year jail term shocking; NPP must appeal – Kyei-Brobbey

An aspiring Ashanti Regional Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ishaq Kyei-Brobbey, says the conviction and 20-year prison sentence handed to the party's Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has come as a shock to him.

His comments follow the Accra High Court's decision to sentence Chairman Wontumi to 20 years' imprisonment over illegal mining activities on the Samreboi concession in the Western Region.

Mr Kyei-Brobbey said although he is not a legal practitioner, he believes the party should immediately pursue an appeal against the sentence.
