GES says Free SHS not cancelled, warns against GH¢1,500 chop box claim Featured Aug - 18 - 2026 , 14:54 1 minute read The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed claims circulating on social media that the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy has been cancelled and parents have been directed to pay GH¢1,500 for chop boxes and trunks.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the Service said management had not cancelled the Free SHS policy and that the Director-General had not directed parents or guardians to pay for chop boxes, trunks or any other items.

It also cautioned the public to treat unverified information circulating on social media with care.
