Gambia: Farmers in Sabach Sanjal Turning Fields Into Upland Rice Farms

By GhanaSummary NewsroomPan-Africa

Unlike past decades when rice cultivation was only relegated to swampy areas, several farmers have started growing rice in upland areas every crop season, with almost every compound cultivating a rice farm, particularly in Misira Mbayen.

Omar Mbye, who has been inspired by Fafa's success, said their rice farms are saving them from spending their fortune to buy rice all the time, adding that "we have not been buying rice the way we used to do when we had not commenced upland rice cultivation in recent years".
