Teachers' Strike Suspended: Academic work resumes in basic schools nationwide

Academic work is resuming in basic schools across Ghana following the suspension of the nationwide teachers' strike by GNAT, NAGRAT and PRETAG. The unions suspended the industrial action on October 9 after negotiations with the government and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission over outstanding promotion allowances, salary arrears and other conditions of service. The government has committed to paying promotion and placement arrears owed to approximately 51,000 teachers by October 16, 2026, with other allowance payments scheduled for the coming months.
