President of Ghana
John Mahama
Comeback president — defeated in 2016, returned to Flagstaff House in 2025.
Born John Dramani Mahama in 1958 in Damongo, he rose through communications minister and vice president before succeeding John Atta Mills in 2012, then winning election that same year. His first presidency delivered major infrastructure — but ended in 2016 defeat amid power crisis fallout.
Eight years in opposition rebuilt him: a 2020 narrow loss, then a decisive 2024 comeback over Bawumia on an economy-first message. Sworn in January 2025, he returned to Flagstaff House promising a “reset”.
Constitutionally term-limited, he cannot contest 2028 — making his succession the NDC’s biggest coming question and his second term the audition for his legacy.
