U.S. Court Denies Attorneys’ Fees in Empawa Africa Music Services’ Copyright Case Against Bad Bunny

A United States federal court has denied a motion by Bad Bunny and other defendants seeking attorneys’ fees and costs from Empawa Africa Music Services Limited following a copyright lawsuit over the sampling of the song “Empty My Pocket” in Bad Bunny’s hit track “Enséñame a Bailar.

Background to the Dispute The lawsuit was filed in federal court after years of tension between Bad Bunny’s label, Rimas Entertainment, and emPawa Africa, the music company founded by Ghanaian-Nigerian artist and entrepreneur Mr Eazi.

The court noted that Bad Bunny admitted to using the sample in “Enséñame a Bailar.
