UNFPA Ghana pledges continuous support for adolescent health, empowerment programme
Adolescent corner A Public Health Nurse at the Ussher Hospital, Doris Pokuaa Appiah, speaking on the impact of the programme, said about 30 young women had been enrolled under the UNFPA-supported vocational training initiative since 2021, with 10 successfully completing the programme and graduating.
A key component of the Programme is the UNFPA-Prada Group partnership, dubbed “Fashion Expressions: The Stories She Wears”, which is also in collaboration with International Needs Ghana and the Ussher Hospital Sewing Centre, and has provided intensive fashion design training for 15 vulnerable young women and girls.
The Medical Superintendent of Ussher Hospital, Dr Philomina Bonsu, said the hospital’s adolescent health programme, which operated under the Ghana Health Service’s Public Health Unit, had been running for years.
