Self-censorship among appointees remains a challenge for Ghanaian institutions – Prof Agyeman-Duah

Governance expert, Professor Baffour Agyeman-Duah has raised concern over a persistent problem in Ghana’s public service: the tendency of some appointees to self-censor or feel bound by loyalty to the president or political party that selected them.“But at times, it is people who are appointed who are unable to do that because they feel like because they are appointed by a particular president, therefore they hold allegiance to that party or that presidency.
Speaking on Starr News in reaction to the appointment of Emelia Affi Agbenyo as a Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Prof Agyeman-Duah noted that while past political activism does not automatically translate into biased performance, the real risk lies in how appointees themselves interpret their obligations.
