Kumasi to experience temporary power outages as GRIDCo begins major transmission line upgrade

Residents and businesses in Kumasi and parts of the Ashanti Region are expected to experience temporary and localised power interruptions from July 20, 2026, as the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) begin the final phase of the Kumasi–Anwomaso Transmission Line Upgrade Project.

The Ministry apologised for the inconvenience and appealed for public patience, saying the temporary disruptions are necessary to deliver a stronger and more reliable electricity network for Kumasi, the Ashanti Region and the country.

To facilitate the construction works, the transmission line will be temporarily de-energised, resulting in planned outages for customers served by the Kumasi (K1) and Anwomaso (K2) substations.
