Kumasi to experience intermittent power outages for three months as GRIDCo upgrades transmission lines

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced that residents of Kumasi and parts of the Ashanti Region should brace for intermittent power outages over the next three months as the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) undertakes a major rehabilitation of ageing power transmission infrastructure.
Jinapor said the rehabilitation project will significantly increase the transmission capacity from the current 364 megawatts (MW) to approximately 1,000 megawatts (MW), paving the way for a more reliable and stable electricity supply after the work is completed.
He noted that failure to replace the ageing transmission infrastructure could expose Kumasi to more frequent power supply challenges in the future.
