Government to add constitutional referendum to 2027 District Assembly elections

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to hold a national referendum on proposed constitutional amendments alongside the 2027 District Assembly elections.

The President explained that the government was preparing to determine which of the proposed constitutional changes required parliamentary approval and which would have to be subjected to a referendum.” The President said the government intended to attach the referendum to the District Assembly elections scheduled for next year to facilitate the process.
