Government declines MTN’s GHS20m support for Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, 26 August, the government said it had made adequate provision for the ongoing evacuation and reintegration of Ghanaians affected by the attacks.

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, says the government has respectfully declined a GHS20 million donation offered by MTN Ghana to support Ghanaians affected by recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

The government commended MTN for the gesture but said it was unable to accept the donation because financial arrangements had already been made to support the evacuation and reintegration exercise.
