Anti-galamsey taskforces extorting miners, not fighting menace – Joseph Yamin alleges According to him, the growing number of security teams conducting separate operations at mining sites has created confusion and, in some cases, opened the door for officials to allegedly demand money from illegal miners rather than enforce the law.

He also cited political interference and a lack of coordination among state agencies tasked with tackling the menace as other reasons hindering the effectiveness of the fight against illegal mining.

He cited the involvement of units such as the Anti-Robbery Unit of the Ghana Police Service in mining-site operations as an example of what he described as the disorderly approach in combating the menace.
