Ayitey Powers remanded over alleged death threat

Former Ghanaian boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, has been remanded for one week following his arrest over an alleged death threat against National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.

In a statement issued on August 20, the GBIMC described the alleged threat against the NSA Director-General as unacceptable and criminal and called on the Police Service to act.

Ayitey Powers was arrested by the Police on Monday, August 24, 2026 in relation to investigations on a video circulating on social media in which the former boxer was alleged to have issued the threat.
