About 45% of port heavy-duty workers reported low-back pain – Medical doctor

About 45 per cent of heavy-duty operational staff of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) reported to be experiencing low-back pain, highlighting the occupational health risks associated with physically demanding port operations.

Speaking at a media forum, powered by the GPHA, he said port workers faced a range of occupational health risks because of the physically demanding and hazardous nature of their work.

The senior medical officer said employers could eliminate or substitute workplace hazards where possible, introduce engineering controls, adjust work schedules and reassign workers whose health conditions made certain duties unsafe.
