Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir said the county government was clearing drainage channels across the six sub-counties of Mvita, Nyali, Likoni, Changamwe, Jomvu and Kisauni to improve water flow and reduce flooding.

A recent report by the National Disaster Operations Centre (NDOC) identified Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu among urban areas at high risk of flooding, even as it projected that the ongoing El Niño would peak in December.“We want clean drainage systems in the sub-counties to avoid flooding,” Mr Nassir said, adding that the county was strengthening its El Niño preparedness measures.
