President Mahama orders GH¢2 reduction in diesel price as government moves to cushion consumers

According to a statement from the Presidency on Monday, August 3, 2026, the intervention is aimed at preventing transport fare increases, reducing inflationary pressures, and mitigating the impact of higher fuel prices on the cost of living.“This temporary intervention is intended to cushion consumers, prevent transport fare hikes, contain inflationary pressures, and mitigate the pass-through effect of higher fuel prices on the cost of living,” the statement said.

The Presidency explained that the move follows a similar intervention implemented in April 2026, as government continues to respond to developments in the international energy market and their impact on domestic fuel price.
