PMAG pushes for stronger local pharmaceutical industry ... as it marks 27 years

The proposals include the establishment of a pharmaceutical industrial park with shared infrastructure, the creation of a Ghana Pharma Innovation Fund to commercialise research, the development of a National Pharmaceutical Skills Blueprint and a pharmaceutical manufacturing training academy, strengthening quality standards and expanding market access for Ghanaian pharmaceutical products.

Dr Amo Tobbin said investment in innovation and skills development, along with a strong industrial value chain was critical to reduce the country’s dependence on imported medicines, creation of jobs, conservation of foreign exchange and position the country as a pharmaceutical manufacturing hub in West Africa.

He said the measure formed part of the implementation of the National Pharmaceutical Policy, which sought to expand local production, attract investment, strengthen quality and improve coordination across the pharmaceutical value chain.
