Supreme Court declares political parties’ delegate system unconstitutional

The Supreme Court ruling comes after Professor Frimpong Boateng, a heart surgeon, Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, a member of the New Patriotic Party and Dr Christine Amoako-Nuamah proceeded to to the apex court over the current delegates voting to elect Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Accra July 29, GNA – The delegates-based electoral college system used by political parties in Ghana to elect Presidential or parliamentary candidates has been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

It therefore declared that not later than one year from today, political parties must establish a system for selecting presidential and parliamentary candidates that would enable all registered members in good standing , as determined by the party to vote.
