Mahama orders GH¢2 per litre diesel price reduction amid transport fare hike threats

The directive, announced by the Presidency on Monday, August 3, 2026, comes amid growing concerns over the impact of recent fuel price increases and warnings by the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of a possible upward adjustment in transport fares.“This temporary intervention is intended to cushion consumers, prevent transport fare hikes, contain inflationary pressures, and mitigate the pass-through effect of higher fuel prices on the cost of living,” the statement added.
