Kwaku Asante’s summary of the judgment of the Court of Appeal acquitting Sedina Tamakloe

The Prosecution’s case that no such sensitisation programme ever happened rested entirely on what regional directors supposedly told two witnesses, directors who never appeared in court to be cross-examined.

The stealing charges and the conspiracy-to-steal charges, the Court found, were properly drafted; they told her clearly enough what she was accused of doing, when, and with what money.

But the Court found nothing in Ghanaian law that strips a person convicted in absentia of her right to appeal, and since her notice of appeal was properly and timeously filed, that objection went nowhere.
