Coconut seller fined for dumping husks into drain

Nyame was arrested after being caught disposing of a large quantity of husks into a drain The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Sanitation Court has fined a coconut seller, Prince Nyame, GH¢360 for indiscriminately dumping coconut husks into a public drain near Accra Academy at Bubuashie.

Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, condemned the act, describing the dumping of coconut husks and other solid waste into drains as a major contributor to blocked drainage systems, flooding, and poor sanitation in the city.

Allotey cautioned traders against using drains, pavements, and other public spaces as dumping grounds, warning that such practices constitute offences under the Assembly’s sanitation regulations.
