A solemn ceremonial event involving the public laying of flowers and the lighting of candles is underway at the Ceremonial Garden in front of the Presidency, as Ghanaians mourn the tragic passing of eight individuals in the fatal helicopter crash.

The President John Dramani Mahama as well as his Vice, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and government officials are at the event grounds to honor the memory of the deceased persons.

The fatal crash occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Ashanti Region as the officials were on their way to an event at Obuasi.

The names of the perished are: Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence; Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology; Limuna Muniru, Ag Dep National Security Coordinator; Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; Samuel Aboagye, NADMO Deputy Director-General.
