The National Peace Council (NPC) has summoned the leadership of the (NDC) and the (NPP) for an urgent high-level meeting in Akwatia on Monday, September 1, 2025, ahead of the constituency's by-election scheduled for September 2, 2025.

In a letter dated August 30, 2025, signed by NPC Executive Secretary Dr George Amoh, the Council invited both parties to engage in dialogue to promote peace and political tolerance amid rising tensions surrounding the by-election.

According to the Council, this initiative follows previous engagements with the NDC and NPP on July 29 and 30, 2025, as part of the NPC's commitment to ensuring a violence-free electoral process. "In fulfilment of our pledge to engage you ahead of the Akwatia by-elections, the Board respectfully requests a short meeting with the leadership of both the NDC and NPP," the letter stated.

The meeting, scheduled on the eve of the by-election at 2 p.m., comes in the wake of recent incidents, including an alleged attack on NDC leaders during the one-week observation marking the passing of the sitting Member of for the area, Ernest Yaw Kumi.
