Mohammed Amin Adam has raised alarm over what he describes as a growing economic burden placed on Ghanaians by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), warning that the recent string of levies and tariff hikes is worsening the cost of living across the country. "The goodwill they enjoyed at the outset of their administration is rapidly eroding under the weight of failing policies," the former Finance Minister aid in a statement released on July 16, 2025.
His comments come as the controversial "Dumsor Levy" officially takes effect, joining a list of taxes and extensions introduced in the last six months.
Amin Adam criticized the NDC government for ignoring calls by citizens and transport associations to reconsider the levy. "The government has refused to heed the pleas of Ghanaians, including transport associations, regarding the potential increase in transport fares due to the levy," he stated.
He expressed frustration that, instead of bringing relief, the government is intensifying economic hardship at a time when many are already struggling. "This levy will worsen the cost of living for Ghanaians," he warned.
