Former Black Stars striker Joetex Frimpong has disclosed a moment during his time with the national team that left him scared. Frimpong had a brief spell with the Black Stars but made a significant impact as Ghana qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 2006.
The former BSC Young Boys player made 11 appearances for the Black Stars, scoring two goals but failed to make Ghana's team to the World Cup in Germany in 2006.
According to Frimpong, ex-coach Ratomir Dujkovic inspired fear in the new players to get the best out of his team and that left him scared of losing his position. "It was a scary moment when Ratomir Dujkovic told us (new players) in my first stint with the Black Stars that, if we fail to make any impact, we wouldn't be called again to the team," he told Sikka Sports. "I came on as a substitute again Burkina Faso, got a penalty and also assisted for Ghana to win 2-1 from a goal down," he added.
He also revealed that missing the World Cup remains his biggest regret despite featuring consistently in the qualifiers. "My biggest regret with the Black Stars was my omission from the 2006 World Cup squad, it was difficult for me to take then," he said.
