Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Majority Leader in Parliament, has expressed deep regret over the recent violent clash in Obuasi, which resulted in the tragic deaths of nine small-scale miners and left several others critically injured.
Addressing a press conference in Parliament on Tuesday, 21 January 2025, Dr Forson described the incident as a significant blot on the nation's quest for peaceful resolution of conflicts. "The recent confrontations between small-scale miners and military personnel in Obuasi, which led to the death of nine miners and left several others in critical condition after sustaining various degrees of injury, is most regrettable," he remarked.
He conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
The Majority Leader emphasised the need for dialogue and effective engagement to address the underlying issues surrounding mining activities in the region.
