The Supreme Court of Ghana has placed a hold on a recent ruling by Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, that declared the seats of four Members of Parliament (MPs) vacant.

This legal intervention halts the enforcement of the Speaker's ruling, which affects MPs Cynthia Morrison (Agona West), Kwadjo Asante (Suhum), Andrew Amoako Asiamah (Fomena), and Peter Kwakye Ackah (Amenfi Central).

The Speaker's initial decision came after former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu filed a motion, citing constitutional provisions that demand MPs who switch political parties or contest elections as independents must vacate their seats.

Acting on these constitutional guidelines, Bagbin declared the seats vacant, which ignited considerable debate and set the stage for the ongoing legal proceedings.
