Economist Professor Patrick Asuming has stressed that without addressing Ghana's energy sector challenges, major government initiatives such as industrialisation and the proposed 24-hour economy are unlikely to succeed.
His remarks follow the recent passage of the Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which introduces a GHS1 tax on fuel.
The government says the levy is intended to raise revenue to clear energy sector debts and stabilise electricity supply.
