Police urged to keep up pressure on illegal mining

By GhanaSummary NewsroomSouth Africa

Mpumalanga authorities are calling on police to keep up the pressure on illegal mining, following the arrest of nine Mozambican nationals in Mashobodo, near Ngodwana.

The suspects were nabbed during an intelligence-led Operation Vala Umgodi raid, with police seizing mining equipment and chemicals believed to have been used to process gold-bearing material.“Of the 1,142 that were arrested between 24 and 27 September, a considerable number of them were charged with illegal mining-related activities, such that they were in possession of gold-bearing devices, ammunition, firearms, and all of that.
