Government turning to borrowing too soon after IMF programme – Gideon Boako

"We just exited an IMF programme and for less than a year, we have started seeing the government resort to the debt market to finance critical investment in this country," he said.

According to Dr Boako, "It is happening because the Finance Ministry and the management of finances of this country are doing virtually nothing to ensure that we can raise the needed revenue to finance such critical investment in the country, and that is why we are resorting to borrowing.

The Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament's Finance Committee, Dr Gideon Boako, has questioned government's renewed reliance on borrowing, saying the country has returned to the debt market too quickly after exiting the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.
