Mortuary workers across Ghana have declared their intention to cease operations beginning Thursday, September 26, as part of a protest over unresolved issues related to their salaries and working conditions.   The Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) made this announcement in a press release on Tuesday, September 17.

They cited the government's continued neglect of longstanding requests for improved remuneration, better working environments, and adequate personal protective equipment (PPE).Despite multiple discussions with the Ministry of Health and other relevant authorities, MOWAG noted minimal progress in addressing their concerns.

The workers expressed frustration over the government's unfulfilled commitments and lack of urgency in resolving these issues, which have persisted for years.

The planned strike is expected to disrupt operations at healthcare facilities nationwide, potentially overwhelming morgues with an influx of bodies.
