A lingering question following the dismissal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo is whether she is entitled to a pension after more than two decades of service to Ghana's judiciary.

However, a precedent has been set in Ghana by the Supreme Court, which ruled on the payment of a pension to a High Court judge who had been removed from office.

In March 2008, High Court judge, Justice Edward Boateng, was convicted and subsequently dismissed for investing over $50,000 meant for a litigant.

Following his dismissal, he filed a lawsuit in the High Court to challenge the forfeiture of his retirement package.
