Private legal practitioner and social activist, Elorm Ababio, popularly known as Ama Governor, has suggested that the former Chief Justice of Ghana, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, could have her license to practice law revoked following her removal from office.
In a series of social media posts after Justice Torkornoo's dismissal by President John Dramani Mahama on Monday, September 1, 2025, Ama Governor, who herself was denied a call to the Bar under the former Chief Justice's leadership, argued that the same grounds for which Torkornoo was removed could also serve as the basis for revoking her legal license. "Note to anonymous GLC petitioners/aka 'concerned citizens of Ghana,' here is some free legal advice from your fav lawyer :) The former CJ, who is now only a lawyer, can have her legal license taken away for probably the same grounds on which she was removed as CJ," she wrote.
Recalling her own struggle to join the Bar during Justice Torkornoo's tenure as Chairperson of the General Legal Council (GLC), the activist cited sections of the Legal Profession Act to support her position. "But if I could survive her attempt to keep me from becoming a lawyer, she can survive all attempts to take away her legal license as a lawyer.
But her license, they should collect it.
