Former Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, (KT Hammond), has claimed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi-Dorani, did not win the 2024 parliamentary election in the constituency on merit.
Speaking to the media following the dismissal of his election petition by the Obuasi High Court, KT Hammond attributed the NDC's victory to voter apathy among supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The former MP, who lost the Adansi Asokwa seat to Dorgbadzi-Dorani by 954 votes in the December 7, 2024, polls, alleged that the election outcome was influenced by low turnout from NPP supporters. "For whatever reason, we, the NPP, decided to hand over power, but that's what we did, and so he didn't win," he stated, insisting that the NDC won the election "by default" and not on merit.
He further noted that, according to records, the NDC did not increase their votes compared to the NPP, which saw their votes drop significantly due to voter apathy. "And for his own information, quite a few of the NDC supporters voted for me because of what they were telling me.
