Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey made his Villarreal debut on Friday night, coming off the bench in a 2-0 LaLiga victory over Real Oviedo.

The 32-year-old former Arsenal and Atletico Madrid star replaced Santi Comesaña in the 82nd minute and was met with a combination of jeers and applause from the home supporters at Estadio de la Cerámica.

Partey, who joined Villarreal after leaving Arsenal on a free transfer in June, was appearing in LaLiga for the first time since 2020.

His return to Spanish football comes while he is on conditional bail after being charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, allegations he has denied.
