The ruling (NDC) has affirmed its decision to participate in the Akwatia Constituency parliamentary by-election scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
According to a report by myjoyonline.com, the confirmation was contained in a statement signed by the party's Deputy General Secretary, Godwin Ako Gunn.
Following the opposition 's (NPP) announcement that it will not contest the Tamale Central by-election, necessitated by the death of the constituency's MP, Dr Murtala Muhammed, in a helicopter crash, some have called on the NDC to also demonstrate goodwill by not contesting the Akwatia seat.
However, the NDC's statement argued that the NPP's decision regarding Tamale Central was less about respect, as publicly claimed, and more about political strategy.
