Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed was confirmed dead in a fatal helicopter crash at Adansi Sikaman in the Adansi Asokwa District of the Ashanti Region, along with seven others, while en route to an event in Obuasi.
He was appointed as the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology by President in January 2025, assuming office in February 2025 after being vetted and approved by Parliament and subsequently sworn in.
He also served as the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central and the Nanton constituencies respectively.
In December 2024, he won the parliamentary election on the ticket of the NDC to represent Tamale Central by securing 52,263 votes while his opponent had 16,647 votes.
