The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Ghana, Rev Stephen Wengam, has recounted how prayers from his church, in his view, played a crucial role in shielding President John Dramani Mahama from the infamous helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight people on August 6 in the Ashanti Region.
During a sermon in church following the tragedy, Rev Wengam expressed profound gratitude to God, linking the President's absence from that ill-fated journey to what he described as divine intervention sparked by persistent prayer. "I've been calling and posting on social media and saying, Assemblies of God, thank you for saving our President's life," he said, emphasizing that the moment called not for applause, but reflection and prophetic awareness.
According to him, he received notice from the President's office a week prior, indicating that Mahama would not be able to attend a scheduled event and would instead be traveling to Côte d'Ivoire.
Unhappy with this change, Rev Wengam said he immediately asked that the church's prayer team be mobilized to intercede. "I said, I don't accept it.
