Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has raised a red flag over the troubling health implications of persistent water shortages in the Krowor Constituency - particularly at the Nungua Senior High School (SHS).
Speaking to Citi News, the Krowor Member of Parliament expressed deep concern about the rising number of infections among female students at the school, attributing the issue to the lack of access to clean water. "Whenever there is a water shortage in the constituency, Nungua SHS is among the hardest hit," she said. "I've heard countless stories of young girls suffering infections due to the acute lack of water." She explained that, while she regularly supplies water to the school and surrounding communities through water tankers, her efforts alone cannot fully address the scale of the crisis. "I often have to step in and supply water through tankers, but that alone is not enough," she noted.
Water shortages have long plagued the Krowor Constituency, affecting not just schools, but also households and health facilities.
The MP's comments are a renewed call for urgent and sustainable intervention from the Ghana Water Company and other relevant authorities to prevent further harm, particularly to vulnerable groups like schoolchildren.
