The Minority in Parliament has slammed the government's newly announced cocoa price, accusing it of shortchanging farmers despite global gains in cocoa pricing.
On Monday, August 4, 2025, the government announced a new producer price of GH¢3,228 per bag for the 2025/2026 season - a slight increase from the previous GH¢3,100.
But Isaac Yaw Opoku, Ranking Member on Parliament's Committee on Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs, says the adjustment is deceptive and doesn't reflect current realities.
He argues that Ghanaian cocoa farmers deserve more, especially when Ivorian farmers are getting better deals.
