The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced plans to introduce a minimum wage structure for players in the Ghana Premier League after approval by the Executive Council (EXCO).
The move is aimed at ensuring fair compensation for footballers and addressing long-standing concerns about poor wages for players in the domestic league, which has led to a massive departure of players from the league.
Speaking on Starr FM on the Starr Sports Digest with Benjamin Yamoah, Communications Director, at the GFA, Henry Asante Twum, confirmed the initiative as part of broader reforms to professionalize and improve player welfare in the country's top-flight league. "GFA will introduce minimum wage structure for players in the Ghana Premier League after it was approved by EXCO" said Asante Twum.
It aligns with the GFA's ongoing efforts to raise standards in the local game, boost player motivation, and retain talent within the Ghanaian league system.
