Ghana's Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has raised alarm over a growing wave of mobile data bundle scams that have led to the loss of at least GHC 73,510 between January and July 2025.

In an alert issued on August 1, the CSA revealed that 63 cases had been officially reported within the period, warning that cybercriminals are increasingly preying on unsuspecting users desperate for discounted data deals. "These scams are often premeditated and well-orchestrated," the Authority noted, explaining that fraudsters typically pose as mobile network agents and use platforms like WhatsApp, SMS, and social media to lure victims.

In many instances, people are convinced to make upfront payments for data bundles that never arrive.

The CSA explained that victims are also duped into clicking malicious links or revealing sensitive details such as passwords and mobile money PINs, which grants attackers access to their wallets, social media, or even banking apps.
