Correspondence from the Ashanti Region Following a recent sensitization program at the Santasi Market as part of the World Food Safety Day, John Laryea Odai-Tettey, Ashanti Regional Head of the Food and Drug Authority (FDA), is urging the general public to report any suspected sale of unwholesome products, guaranteeing complete anonymity to informants.
Speaking after the event, Odai-Tettey emphasised the FDA's commitment to cracking down on the sale of dangerous and expired goods. "Your identity will be concealed," he assured the public. "We will do our investigation and pick whoever is behind the sale of unwholesome products if it is FDA-regulated." Odai-Tettey stressed that the FDA encourages anyone who encounters individuals selling potentially harmful products to come forward without fear of reprisal. "So we assure the general public and whoever comes across any untoward behavior as a result of people selling unwholesome products, report freely to the Food and Drug Authority and be assured that your identity will not be exposed." He reiterated the FDA's dedication to protecting public health and safety in the Ashanti region. "The FDA encourages the public to contact their regional office or use the FDA's reporting channels to report any suspected violations." Satisfied with the sensitization program, he disclosed that the FDA's initiatives aim to protect public health and safety in Ghana.
By working together, he said, the FDA, market women, and consumers can significantly reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses.
Odai-Tettey emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring food safety.
