The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwasi Pratt Jnr, has said he is closely watching to see whether government officials will continue the habit of leaving their vehicle engines running for hours, now that they will be paying for their own fuel.
His comments follow President John Mahama's recent directive to scrap fuel allowances for government appointees.
Speaking on Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana on July 16, 2025, Pratt noted that many officials often leave their engines idling during meetings simply to avoid returning to a hot car. "I'm waiting to see if they will leave their engines running for hours now that they'll be buying the fuel themselves," he said.
He further urged the government to strictly implement the policy and ensure effective monitoring to prevent abuse.
