The Member of for Akuapem North, , has criticised the government's decision to scrap fuel allowances and allocations for all political appointees, describing it as a populist move and a mere public relations gimmick.

Speaking on the floor of on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, he challenged the government to take decisive and meaningful action if it is truly committed to the directive. "If the President really wants to show commitment to cutting down on fuel allowances, I challenge him to shut down the fuel depots at the Castle and Jubilee House.

That would mean they are no longer taking fuel for free," he said.

Awuku also expressed concern over the lack of clarity surrounding the directive. "Does it include ministers?
