President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, has strongly condemned the assault of GHOne TV journalist Agyekum Banahene by a police officer during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun on Friday, July 11, 2025.

Dwumfuor is calling on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Director-General of Operations, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to ensure that the officer responsible is held accountable without delay. "We demand an immediate, thorough, and transparent criminal investigation into this matter since it is a case of assault, which is a second-degree felony," Dwumfuor stated firmly.

The incident occurred at the Church of Pentecost, North Odorkor Polling Station 2, where Banahene was covering the rerun election.

He was reportedly slapped by a uniformed police officer while attempting to report from inside the polling centre - an attack that was captured on camera and has since gone viral.
